Who We Are
Jake was saved at the early age of 5 years old after understanding and believing what Christ had done for him on the cross and through repenting of his personal sins. He grew up in a variety of Baptist churches, but not until a youth pastor began to disciple him did he really begin to grow in his Christian walk. Later, God gave him the desire to go into missions through a missions trip to Ukraine in 2003.
Joy grew up in a pastor's home clearly understanding the Gospel, and tried to put on a front of a Christian life without having a relationship with Christ. Not until age 16 did she truly repent of her sins and place her personal faith in Christ's death and resurrection. After this time she quickly began to grow spiritually and allowed the Lord to lead her to Bible college. After realizing her love for Children, at first she desired to be a school teacher, but God gave her a desire to study missions and focus more on teaching the Bible to young kids and adults.
We were both born in North Carolina, moved to Virginia as children and came back to North Carolina for Bible college. It was when Joy came to Bible college that we met and began to do ministry together before we ever began dating.
God led us to each other and we were married in 2011, and then he directed us to the field of the Dominican Republic in 2013. We are currently on deputation and make trips to the Dominican to support our team while we continue to raise our support. You can find out more about what is going on in our lives by going to our facebook. You can also sign up for our newsletter.
We have spent a total of 9 months in the Dominican Republic and feel like we are grasping the culture and language well. Jake, through high school Spanish class, missions trips, and working in a Hispanic church in the states; speaks Spanish fluently. Joy has been taking regular Spanish classes while on deputation and during our time spent on the field has learned the language fairly well. During our 9 months spent in the DR we have been very involved in the teaching and relationship building aspects of the ministry.
